God is calling me to redefine what I call success in this season. With the start of a new year always comes the conversations about New Year’s resolution. I felt a challenge deep within me to reevaluate my heart.

There are many things we choose from like eating healthy, working out, saving more money, getting outdoors more, trying to read, etc. Sometimes we complete these resolutions but often times we don’t. At times, we may even forget what we said in the beginning of the year. For most, a New Year’s resolution is spoken lightly without much thought.

Over the years, I shifted from physical resolutions to more faith based ones. Study Scripture more. Do something new in ministry. Further my education or skill set that connects with the my calling. Gain another certificate or training. Last year, I spent the year looking into a principle that I felt I didn’t personally grasp the depth of in my everyday life. The Sabbath. There is so much the Lord has revealed to me in the past year on this principle and how it applies to my heart and life.

This year I am leaning into redefining success. It is a New Year, a New Me with the Same Jesus.

Why success? It is so easy to feel successful when things go right, ministry grows, and there is peace. What about when you feel like giving up and quitting? When we fail people and let ourselves down. It is so tempting to go into “work mode” and fix things your self and lose sight of the One we are doing it for. God.

The end results are not up to me. My only job is obedience to the One who called me. It is time for a paradigm shift where I don’t see things from my perspective anymore but His. Success looks different when faithfulness and obedience to Him matters more than the visibility or the emotions of success.

  • What is your view of success?

It is a new year, a new you, and the same Jesus. Jesus doesn’t change. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He feels the same way about me today as He did before.

Time to let go of the version of faith that is driven by pressure!

Consider surrendering the need to “do Christianity right” and instead rest in grace. Allow the pieces to fall where they may and trust that God has a purpose and plan. Things may look rough, but God will turn them to my good.

There are reasons why certain people are in our life, why we hold the positions in ministry or the work place that we do. We do not see the big picture or what is around the next curve, but He does.

Trust Him this year, in this season to continue your story. Allow God’s view of success to penetrate you until it becomes your view.
